British engineer 'in love' with South Africa, hacked to death for his mobile phone

A British engineer who moved to a remote farm in South Africa after “falling in love with the country” has been murdered in his own home by a machete-wielding gang who stole just £210 and a mobile phone.

Chris Preece, 54, was stabbed to death in his kitchen by thieves at Fleur de Lis farm, near Ficksburg, a town along the South Africa-Lesotho border. Police believe he may have stepped outside to investigate a power cut when he was ambushed by three man and dragged back into the house.

His wife Felicity, 56, was also stabbed and suffered a fractured skull after being beaten with a pole - but managed to survive a 12 hour wait for help by bandaging her own head.

It is thought the thieves may have come from neighbouring Lesotho and fled back across the border after the assault. They stole only a wallet containing 3,000 South African rand (£210) and a mobile telephone.

The murder, on Saturday evening, is the latest in a spate of so-called “farm attacks” in South Africa: brutally violent robberies targeting relatively wealthy white farmers.

A judge today said nine men preyed on white girls as young as 13 for sex 'because they were not part of your community or religion' as he jailed them for a total of 77 years.

The men, all but one originally from Pakistan, were sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court after they were convicted of luring up to 47 girls into sex with drink, drugs, fast food and free taxi rides over a number of years.

One girl was subjected to a horrific ordeal when she was raped by 20 men in a single night.

Opening his sentencing remarks, Judge Gerald Clifton said: 'All of you treated (the victims) as though they were worthless and beyond respect.

'One of the factors leading to that was the fact that they were not part of your community or religion.

'Some of you, when arrested, said it was triggered by race. That is nonsense. What triggered this prosecution was your lust and greed.'

On February 23, SOS-Österreich was one of the first blogs to report on this inhumanly violent attack.

Since unbelievable or horrifying reports come to us almost daily, the incident in Worms was forgotten. Only after several references in our comment section, and/or direct mails, as well as some intensive “googling,” did we notice that only diverse blogs — but no public media in Germany — reported on the rape and mutilation of a young German girl. Is this silence strange, or not?

A female former gang member has exposed the growing levels of sexual violence against young women who join them, saying that many are willing to risk being raped in return for the status of membership.

Isha Nembhard, who was part of an 80-strong gang in Peckham, south London, said some girls readily accepted that they would be sexually abused when associating with male gangs.

The 20-year-old said that the problem had reached a point where being raped was becoming "normalised" among many young women. "Girls who are getting treated very badly know what they are getting into. They sleep with a boy and the boy asks if she will sleep with all his friends.

"It's about low self-esteem and a craving for attention. Even if they know it's wrong, they will do anything to get acceptance," she said.

"A lot of girls are sort of prostituting themselves to have sexual relationships within a gang and get treated in a bad way. For example, she might know about what happens to girls in the gang but still sleeps with all of them just for the status."
